What Is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder consisting of a system of social communication deficiencies, repetitive behavior patterns, and more. Although the exact cause is unknown, there is a high possibility of autism spectrum disorder being caused due to a mixture of genetic and environmental factors. Since autism is a spectrum disorder consisting of many differing subtypes, each person with autism has their own distinct set of challenges and strengths which they learn to work with during the course of their lifetime. The process in which people with autism learn, think, and problem-solve, range from extremely proficient to severely challenged. Autism spectrum disorder is a lifelong disorder, and some who have it may require support to complete day to day functionalities, while others, in some cases, learn to live independently.
